Martial Arts Biography
Mr. Mike is 2nd Dan Black Belt in Hon Hab Do, Universal Kenpo and Okinawan Karate under his instructors Grand Master Alan Cheung, 8th Degree Black Belt and Dr. Ken Balliet, 10th Degree. Mr. Mike is also getting ready to test under Grand Master Leon Jay in Small circle Jujitsu on March 26, 2010. Mike and his school works closely with Hamburg BJJ run by Chad Charlesworth for instruction of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Safe Day Studio BJJ program is and official "Higher Jiu Jitsu" BJJ affiliate. Mr. Mike competes for Higher Jiu Jitsu. Mr. Mike also teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Hon Hab Do, Universal Kempo, Muay Thai, Ryu Kyu Kempo, stick fighting and fighting with a knife. Mr. has studied Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu.
Mr. Mike is responsible for the creation of all of the programs at Safe Day Studios. These programs include Children's Karate, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He also created and teaches the "Teen Safety Technique Program", "Women's Self-Defense Program" and the "Rollin' with Safe Day Program", our wheel chair self-defense program for those who challenge the disease of Spina Bifida everyday! Mike has achieved LFI (Lethal Force Institute) Level 1, taught privately by Mr. Tony Semone. Mike has been an instructor for the World Karate Elite fighting system. Mike is a lethal weapons agent (Act 235) in Pennsylvania and is a cyber security advisor for the Federal Agents PBA. Mike also does executive and celebrity protection. In addition he heads security for a high end supper and night club. Mike teaches law enforcement and military tactical training.
Mr. Mike was inducted into the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors in January 2010 for his "Outstanding Contributions to the Martial Arts". Mike has also been nominated for induction into the 2010 International Independent Martial Arts Association 2010 Hall of Fame. Mr. Mike was inducted into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame on June 28, 2008. He was recognized as "Instructor of the Year" for Mixed Martial Arts and Hon Hab Do. Mr. Mike’s martial arts academy, Safe Day Studio, was voted "Best Martial Arts School of 2007" by AWMA (Asian World of Martial Arts.) Mr, Mike sits on the World Karate Union Hall of Fame Board. He also sits on the Board of the Global Reality Based Fighting Instructors Organization. He was inducted into the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors on January 9, 2010 for his "Outstanding Contributions to the Martial Arts".
Mr. Mike has done seminars in self-defense for Tenant High School for their “College Living” and “Out on my own” curriculum. He developed the “Teen Safety Technique” Program for Holland Middle School. Mike is the self-defense expert at the PhillyFit retreats in Avalon, NJ. Mr. Mike has spoken at the Bucks County Meta-physical Society, Christian’s Women’s Club, North Penn Chamber of Commerce, Montgomery County Community College, Girl Scouts of America (created the program for the self-defense merit badge program in Bucks County), Women’s networking groups, Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Temple U. and was asked to teach a seminar at the 2009 WKU Hall of Fame weekend. Mr. Mike is also on the WKU Board of Directors as of 2009 and is the Director of the 1st Annual BJJ Tournament at the 2010 WKUHOF Weekend. Mr. Mike was the primary subject matter expert for, “The Benefits of Martial Arts for Women” an article published in Diet and Nutrition Magazine. Mike is currently doing public and private women’s self-defense seminars and filming a 4 part DVD involving personal responsibility and intent, titled “Staying in the Moment!”
Mr. Mike also does security for many events including Warminster Days, Southampton Days, Annual Bucks County Fireman's parade and festival. He also runs security for the Freight House in Doylestown, PA. and other night clubs. Master Alan Shen L Cheung
Grand Master Alan Cheung is an 8th Degree Black Belt in Shorinji-Ryu Jutsu, 7th Degree Black Belt in Universal Kempo Karate System, 5th Degree Black Belt in Chinese American Kenpo Karate, and 3rd Dan in Okinawa Kempo Karate. He started training in the Martial Arts when he was 12 years old in New York City Chinatown. He has been a big influence on Mr. Mike's training towards his 2nd Degree Black Belt. Mr. Mike is eternally grateful for Master Cheungs friendship and knowledge!
